Shelter Spotlight: Mechel’s Haven
Recently PawMom and PawDad got to meat the founder of Meche’s Haven. Not only is she extremely kind and passionate about what she does, she has opened her home to over 40 cats! Me’chel first rescued two cats that were living by her properly when she moved upstate ten years ago. She saw that no one was taking care of them, and before she knew it, they were safe inside her home. Me’chel was a dog owner and never owned cats before. She learned a lot in just a short time and before she knew it, other people were asking for her help.
In her home, she has dedicated a whole floor to cat rescues. They are separated by those that are fixed and vaccinated, and those waiting to be treated. She spends her day cleaning, feeding and socializing the animals and knows all their names and their tragic stories. Some she rescued from horrible and neglected situations and others she trapped from the outdoor hard knock life.
Over the years Me’chel has helped countless of cats, using her own time, money, and resources. Since 2016 she has helped people trap cats, provided shelters for stays, and even food to those struggling to feed a colony. She is a true inspiration, and one day I hope that we can rescue as many cats as she has. Mechel’s Haven is truly remarkable and inspiring. One day, we hope to be able to rescue and help as many cats as she has. We have a long way to go!
